HOMEWORK 10/7/09

1. Read and annotate the exposition of ‘Waiting for Godot.’

When you annotate, remember to write questions and comments. Also, please note unfamiliar words or phrases. If you look them up, write down your discoveries.

2. On the blog, put down what you find out about the following things:

  • characters
  • setting
  • conflict
  • BONUS: tone, mood, potential foreshadowing, allusions

characters:i think that the characters they are family because they way they talk to eacth other, and didi dont want to help gogo, what are you doing? estragon says taking off my boot. Did that never happen to you?vladimir says boots must be taken off every day, im tired telling you that. why dont you listen to me? vladimir trying to tell him that he take off his boot everyday, maybe beause estragon sleep in the street that’s why he never take his boot off, and one day he want to take his boot off and he can not take them off by him self.

setting: i think they see a river or a house that is very old, because they mention the holy land.

Please, include lines that give you ideas. You must use evidence to make inferences.

EXAMPLE

CHARACTERS: I think that the characters know each other because Vladimir says about Estragon that “I thought you were gone forever” and that he wants to “celebrate” now that he has returned.  ”Let me embrace you,” Vladimir says — which means he wants to hug Estragon.

SETTING: I think that they are somewhere near Paris because they mention the “Eiffel Tower.”

In both cases, I used lines from the play as evidence for my ideas. You should do the same!
